Northside Hospital Gwinnett Trauma Services hosted a CarFit Senior Driving Safety Event on October 7, 2026, at the Lawrenceville Senior Center. The team completed individualized CarFit assessments for 10 senior drivers and their vehicles.
The event was a collaboration with Brenau University’s Occupational Therapy Program, including professors Kay Graham and Kathy Foley and their occupational therapy students. Each participant received a one-on-one assessment focused on safety, comfort, and proper positioning in their own vehicle. Assessments covered seat and steering wheel position, seat belt fit, mirrors, head restraints, visibility, and access to vehicle controls.
The partnership gave older adults practical injury-prevention education and gave Brenau students hands-on community experience working with seniors. It also strengthened the relationships among Northside Hospital Gwinnett Trauma Services, Brenau University, and the Lawrenceville Senior Center, and supports continued work on safe mobility, independence, healthy aging, and injury prevention for older adults in Gwinnett County.
