Regional Trauma Advisory Committees (RTAC)
Regional Trauma Advisory Committees (RTAC) are administrative bodies within each EMS region comprised of trauma healthcare stakeholders focused in the improvement of the Georgia Trauma System. The purpose of an RTAC is to develop, implement, and monitor a regional trauma system plan to facilitate trauma system networking within a region. RTAC Coordinators, supported and funded by the Georgia Trauma Commission, provide structure within these Committees to enhance trauma capabilities and outcomes within their respective regions. Coordinators continuously collaborate with their RTAC Chair, the Georgia Trauma Commission, Trauma Centers, EMS Agencies, EMS Councils, and other agencies to track and ensure progress of process improvement activities and trauma quality care initiatives throughout the state of Georgia.
Regional Trauma Advisory Committees (RTAC)
Regional Trauma Advisory Committees (RTAC) will be established in each EMS Region for the purpose of developing and maintaining the Regional Trauma System Plan (Plan) and monitoring system compliance and improvement activities.
Each RTAC will:
- Prevent injury by monitoring high incident areas, for example, and proposing solutions and follow-up plans to specific agencies. The RTAC will develop data-supported injury-prevention programs
- Monitor component compliance with the Trauma Plan
- Analyze system performance using data specified in the data-driven performance improvement component
- Evaluate regional trauma training needs
- Act as a forum for regional trauma issues to providers and consumers within the trauma care continuum
- Monitor hospitals’ transfer agreements, proper use of diversion, emergency department “wall time” and holding patterns, etc.
- Identify additional Trauma Center and Trauma System capacity needs within the respective region
- Support non-designated participating hospitals to be brought up to Trauma Center designation status as determined
- Develop and monitor mutual aid agreements and activities to ensure region-wide EMS coverage at all times
RTAC Coordinators
Regional Trauma Advisory Committee (RTAC) coordinators are contracted by the Georgia Trauma Commission to plan, coordinate, and oversee requested improvement activities for the committee and represent the goals and plans of the Georgia Trauma Commission.
